Dendriet is a network of musicians in The Hague (.nl) that perform with networked electronic and acoustic instruments. The word dendriet, or dendrite, is also the name for the receptors of a nervecell. Dendrites are typically branching branches. You'll find these fractal shapes in ice, in metal chrystals in limestone, and likewise, in our performance setups. Please do check out our homepage by clicking the stone. You too are invited to join the discussions.

A nice interface

Check out this movie of the Khronos Projector. They have a nice way of projecting what they do. This 3-axis projections are drawn in a frame in this movie, just to explain the idea:
Frames of a movie are placed behind eachother, and by distorting the projection in the z-axis, parts of the image are in a nother time then others. Then they made an interface that does exactly that: You can push your hand in to a screen, and distort it's shape, thus distoring the time in the image.

Circuit bending links.

Here is a little list of sites that discuss circuitbending, or the art of adding functionality to usually cheap and limited toys and keeyboards. F7sound says: No instrument is safe, no toy left unbroken! Most circuitbenders hack the casio's and the Speak and Spell. Roilnoise felt he needed to get that toy as well. It's also what Alien Devices are hacking into. Also, the talking teacher is popular to bend. Noisy voicelike sounds are more interesting to the brain then bleeps, I guess... Circuitbenders sell Speak and Spells with a variety of pre-installed bends. But they have a 2 page beginners guide on circuitbending that is quite complete. The page gives an idea what our bend toys and radio's are worth. A page full of links about circuitbending can be found at burnkit2600.machinenoise.com and do check their own modified toys.

8bit Revenge

Paul Slocum, who programmed the best Atari 2600 game ever, is still exploring the 8 bit world. He is still using the Atari 2600 and the Commodore64. The Commodore64s are look after for their SID sound chip. It's a cool 3 voice sound chip. It's might not be the best one, but it is the most hacked chip. Paul Slocom is still rewriting his program to interface the SID chip with a C=64. You can put the program on a ROM, and solder the ROM into your old C=64, so that it boots right into Paul Slocoms program.
Yars Revenge sounds totally cool on the Atari 2600. The drones are complex and the explosions were noisy. It's a shame Atari didn't emulate that dirty sound in their 2004 remake (the 10 in 1 joystick) but the gameplay is still addictive.
He also play music with reprogrammed matrix printers.

Han Bennink drums of cheese

Say cheese. It looks nice, and Han was very pleased with the sound.

At least, that was what he told the newspaper.

(I do not understand why the lay out is suddenly screwed up.)

Dendrite bacteria

As a result of the structure of each single-celled bacterium, patterens form when these bacteria multiply. The colours of these images are enhanced, but the patterns are nice. The colonies are of the bacteria Paenibacillus dendritiformis and Paenibacillus vortex. [more...]

Kraakgeluiden session recording

The Kraakgeluiden session was recorded. It's for sale. But you can download it for free. It's no fluffy mp3. It's an AAC file that playes in most soundfile playlist programs, but not in your browser. So: Alt+click, or right-click, save as...
I happen to like Mid Side recordings a lot, and to my taste it worked out really well. I noticed we played rather empty considering we were with 5 people.
