Dendriet is a network of musicians in The Hague (.nl) that perform with networked electronic and acoustic instruments. The word dendriet, or dendrite, is also the name for the receptors of a nervecell. Dendrites are typically branching branches. You'll find these fractal shapes in ice, in metal chrystals in limestone, and likewise, in our performance setups. Please do check out our homepage by clicking the stone. You too are invited to join the discussions.

"Buma/Stemra bites the dust again"

The highest court of law in .nl has decided that the kazaa p2p network is legal. Spreading the program is not a violation of copyrights. Buma/Stemra claimed that the program is illigal because the programmers cannot be held responsible for illegal activities on the internet. (another stupid way of thinking of the Buma. And those people should defend our copyrights... yeah right)

The court did not say anything about weather it is legal to use such a program. This can mean that the Buma's next step can be sueing users, just like the RIAA did. On the other hand, the dutch politician Martijn van Dam says file sharing is legal under the current law.

I think the next step need to be that musicians should be given the freedom to dicide weather their music may be shared or not. If you have a cd out, or have some airplay, there's no option but to become a Buma/Stemra member, or you will not get the royalties that are legally yours. Being a member also means that you may not put your own music online, because ALL music that you made and will make, no piece excluded, is legally owned by the Buma, and they will not allow you to make it available for downloading.

So: Kazaa is legal and sharing is legal. Yet putting your own music online is not legal, due to a contract you have to sign. A rediculous situation.
