Dendriet is a network of musicians in The Hague (.nl) that perform with networked electronic and acoustic instruments. The word dendriet, or dendrite, is also the name for the receptors of a nervecell. Dendrites are typically branching branches. You'll find these fractal shapes in ice, in metal chrystals in limestone, and likewise, in our performance setups. Please do check out our homepage by clicking the stone. You too are invited to join the discussions.

without the pips, the news is late.

"We namen de originele piep, het geluid van een elektrische impuls van 1 kilohertz, en hebben daar de boventonen van afgeleid", legt Billinger uit. " Die hebben we in ritmische reeksen geplaatst met verschillende snelheden en die over elkaar heen gelegd. De intervallen tussen de noten hebben we precies halverwege omgedraaid zodat een symmetrisch stuk ontstaat. Eerst gaat het omhoog en daarna naar beneden. Eigenlijk is het een vrij streng serieel werkje."

Thing goes ping

Some people do not feel good while listening to electronic music, because they can't relate those sounds to their own habitat. The sounds do not resemble things, objects. Objectless sounds, like those from synthesizers, were therefor used in sixties films about aliens.
Why can I like those sounds? Did I learn to listen to objectless sounds, or do I have enough associations with things that go "ping" like Bea5, Putneys, Moogs, and microwave ovens that have just finished my pizza? (I heard that one in Biomekano.)
Can you listen to music without thinking of objects in spaces (rooms, landscapes or starscapes)?

"Buma/Stemra bites the dust again"

The highest court of law in .nl has decided that the kazaa p2p network is legal. Spreading the program is not a violation of copyrights. Buma/Stemra claimed that the program is illigal because the programmers cannot be held responsible for illegal activities on the internet. (another stupid way of thinking of the Buma. And those people should defend our copyrights... yeah right)

The court did not say anything about weather it is legal to use such a program. This can mean that the Buma's next step can be sueing users, just like the RIAA did. On the other hand, the dutch politician Martijn van Dam says file sharing is legal under the current law.

I think the next step need to be that musicians should be given the freedom to dicide weather their music may be shared or not. If you have a cd out, or have some airplay, there's no option but to become a Buma/Stemra member, or you will not get the royalties that are legally yours. Being a member also means that you may not put your own music online, because ALL music that you made and will make, no piece excluded, is legally owned by the Buma, and they will not allow you to make it available for downloading.

So: Kazaa is legal and sharing is legal. Yet putting your own music online is not legal, due to a contract you have to sign. A rediculous situation.

Sax music experiments

Hi ya'll, normally I hate saying I make experimental music, as the experiment is over once I get on stage, and I hopefully know exactly what I'm doing and where I'm heading. But now I do want to let you peek into my experimental phase, which is close to how I live, whatching documentairies on the telly while exploring a new instrument and a max-patch. NovaSaxumAquae
Or a little movie I made, running a filter over a picture 300 times recursively, by hand. Zen, that is: Plastic Wrapped Sax Movie. You may listen to the full length session I did for it's soundtrack: Plastic Wrapped Sax Soundtrack
Tell us what you think of it, here in the comments.
