Dendriet is a network of musicians in The Hague (.nl) that perform with networked electronic and acoustic instruments. The word dendriet, or dendrite, is also the name for the receptors of a nervecell. Dendrites are typically branching branches. You'll find these fractal shapes in ice, in metal chrystals in limestone, and likewise, in our performance setups. Please do check out our homepage by clicking the stone. You too are invited to join the discussions.

p2p update
Dutch edonkey sites were forced to get their links offline. Now you can click on a link thet will email the edonkey links to you, which seems to be legally safe. For a while. Read about it in Dutch.

don't listen to Wagner and drive
According to this article is Die Walküre by Wagner the most dangerous music in the car. Others are: Prodigy - Firestarter, Verdi - Dies Irae (Requiem), Basement Jaxx - Red Alert and Faithless - Insomnia. So ye be warned!!!

gmail
You design sometheing, then it's going to be used in other fasions. I'll set up an Gmail account for our incrowd, as 1 gig of storage in a mail client is a nice lot. We could distribute concertrecordings amongst ourselves the very same night of our performance. Let's bet on what kind of contextual advertisement they'll come up with... corrected the link

Aslaug performed in "Het Paard van Troje" and now...
there's a Trojan Horse for Mac OSX. It works like this: files like mp3 files have tags to store artist- and legal information in. It now appears you can put code in it as well. The file is not really an mp3, but an .app that could delete your user files and leave dirty socks on the table when your mother comes, all while playing a song. Maybe the sollution is as simple as this: turn off the hide ".app" file extension and the trojan_horse.mp3.app will reveal it's nature. Note there's no virus yet, but merely a a method to distribute dirty code, invented by a company that sells security software. So still, you shouldn't install a viruschecker on OSX, unless it's for religious reasons.
It would be a perfect tool for the RIAA and Brein to track mp3 swarming over the p2p networks, though. Release a mp3.app in the wild, and let it phone home when it is played. "Look at this, nobody is sharing the bloody file, every body is buying the cd!" - "yeah, man. It's a stupid song. This is what happens to stupid songs."

/. reports circuit bending
Toy control is now officially nerdy. Our goal for 17 May in Paradiso: to proof it is not.
In NY is a circuit bending festival today."Circuit bending has probably been around for as long as there have been circuits. Lee de Forest, the inventor in 1915 of the vacuum-tube-based audion piano, wrote of the "very weird and beautiful effects" that could be obtained by touching parts of the circuitry."
Here are some movies that explain very well what is going on, and bring back memories of similar livingroomsessions.

mp4 (aac) & binaural filtering
Today I encoded two tracks from Neural Synthesis by David Tudor to mp4. The tracks are binaural. The binaural effect didn't suffer noticably from the encoding. I didn't test mp3 or ogg, but I imagine they would also be able to keep the effect. In theory they shouldn't change any audible effect of the binaural filtering.
Besides all this, listening to these pieces by David Tudor was quite a strange experience: he sounds like me!

Aslaug Live in The Hague
She's contributing to Tag in Het Paard. Currently, she's editing 100 samples from her bassplaying, trying to make it sound like a saxophone. More info can be found, or rather, should be here: www.tag004.nl, click on 'le design le gadget', last in the list.
