Dendriet is a network of musicians in The Hague (.nl) that perform with networked electronic and acoustic instruments. The word dendriet, or dendrite, is also the name for the receptors of a nervecell. Dendrites are typically branching branches. You'll find these fractal shapes in ice, in metal chrystals in limestone, and likewise, in our performance setups. Please do check out our homepage by clicking the stone. You too are invited to join the discussions.

SuperCollider VOSIM Ugen
Another thing I've missed in SuperCollider was the VOSIM generator. So I also programmed it as a plugin for SuperCollider. You can download it here. It's a concept by Dr. Werner Kaegi for VOice SIMulation. It's time function and a detailed discription for those who want to know more about the VOSIM generator.

Muziek in the Gaslab
The Gas Laboratory in Eindhoven is quite close to the station, on the TUE territory. They have a multi-speaker setup now, and use it for string quartets.

Jessica Rylan
Jessica Rylan is a musician who makes her own art/literature/cd's releases. She makes her own machines to use in her band Can't. This is the saddest tale. She's struggling with familiar controller issues when playing live, but doesn't go into detail about that.
Here's some of here music.
Note they released a 5-LPset with compilation of the works by a group of ten musicians. For scientists, it's important to publisch. They pay 500 to 3000 dollar just to do that (plus give up their copyrights on those publications), so... I feel we should release some stuff ASAP.

Coolest modules ever
Cynthia Webster makes the coolest VC synthesizer modules ever. Czech out her new Indian Raag gear.

Jim Patchell needs a movie editor
He said that himself on the sdiy list. But it is a nice homebuilt synthesizer nonetheless.

Kraakgeluiden recording online
In good Dendriet tradition, the recodings of yesterdays performance are put online. Carlos Iturralde, Koen Nutters, Lukas Simonis and Huib Emmer were kind enough to agree to this publication, as well Leon Spek and Ernst van der Loo. Dendriet usually uses a creative commons licence, which in short says: It's OK to share these files but you may not lower the bitrate; You should contact all makers before any commercial use; It's OK to use the material in other works as long as that work is shared like these files. I suggest you use these rules as well, but that is up to you, dear musicians!
So, here they are: session 1, session 2a and session 2b.
I enjoyed the concert a lot, and I wonder what you think...

Spek.VanderLoo play at Kraakgeluiden today
We will be playing with quite some people. First we will be taking Carlos Iturralde (guitars) and then the Kraakgeluiden people also invited Koen Nutters (double bass - plays in Office-R with our friend Jeff Carey), the one and only Lukas Simonis (well he does so much... among which is his work as programmer for Worm, Rotterdam) and Huib Emmer.
Hope to see some of you people there tonight!
The Kraakgeluiden site is here.

Boxes
Ernst and I bought a doepfer box with selected doepfer modules in it, last week. I got 1/3 of it, which should be able to function as a funky synthesizer. But Ernst got to have the box (he now has two), so I'm currently looking for housing for the 30 cm of modules and 2 dozen huge extra cool switches (in stead of nerve wrecking patchcords). I think I found something in my own house, that will give the synth this rough, unfinished look that I like.
I came across Tim kaiser's site, a performer who puts his hacked electronics into new old houses like geiger counters and mine detectors. It's a bit like a lobster living in a shell, which I happened to find truely fascinating when I was a kid. Anyways. I'll be browsing for something like that for my new synth.
